We’re seeking a technical editor to join our team in Occupational Safety and Health (OHS) Investigations. We create and deliver high-quality occupational health and safety resources, making them accessible to our internal and external customers by using a range of technology and delivery channels, including publications, social media, apps, websites, and databases.
In this role, you’ll use your editorial expertise to ensure that our online and print publications follow the standards outlined in our editorial guidelines.

This is a hybrid position where you will work primarily at home and be on-site at our Richmond office occasionally.

What you'll do

As a technical editor you will:

  • Liaise with investigation officers to ensure accuracy
  • Provide editorial and web publishing expertise on projects such as bulletins, penalty summaries, and notices of incidents, which can contain sensitive and at times, unpleasant or disturbing information
  • Provide direction and quality control on projects for web or print publication, while ensuring adherence to our editorial and publishing standards
  • Work as part of a team, clearly and concisely presenting and explaining technical information, verbally and in writing, to audiences with varying levels of understanding and information needs

Is this a good fit for you?

We’re looking for someone who can:

  • Prepare information for electronic and print publications with sensitive content
  • Provide persuasive and diplomatic input, advice, and guidance to team members
  • Demonstrate experience with all stages of editing: structural editing, stylistic editing, copy editing, and proofreading experience with plain language editing would also be an asset
  • Clearly and concisely present and explain technical information, verbally and in writing, to audiences with varying levels of understanding
  • Use Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Your experience and educational background:

  • A degree in English, journalism, communications, editing, or technical writing
  • A minimum of six years of recent, related experience in editing
  • Sound knowledge of media production and communication
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • High degree of attention to detail and accuracy
  • This position requires regular and punctual attendance

Application requirements:
Work samples required. Please submit samples of your published editing and writing work, electronic or print. If possible, please include before-and-after editing examples that show the changes you made. You may provide up to three work samples, which can include links to published works. Place your samples in the same document as your resume or cover letter and submit with your online application.

You must submit your application by 4:30 pm on the closing date of the competition.

If you require an accommodation in the assessment process, please email the HR Testing Accommodation (SM) at the time you submit your application.
