Our Organization : The Ya’thi Néné Land and Resource Office works to promote and enhance the environmental, social, cultural, and economic health and well-being of the Athabasca residents including Black Lake, Fond du Lac and Hatchet Lake Denesųłiné First Nations, as well as the municipalities of Stony Rapids, Wollaston Lake, Camsell Portage and Uranium City. Position: Under the direction of the Operations Manager  the Environmental Land Use Planner will be focused on implementing our land programs that involve consultation and engagement, planning and protection, and monitoring. The work will involve geospatial analysis and mapping, research, data management, communication with numerous stakeholders, report writing, coordination of tasks and other duties as assigned. The Land Use Planner will require extensive travel to the Athabasca Basin Communities and occasional fieldwork.   Responsibilities Ongoing updates to biophysical, cultural and socioeconomic datasets through a community-based approach, including additional Use and Occupancy research as needed; Conduct research to support programs, as needed; Coordinate land use activities; Support the establishment of Indigenous Protected Areas; Support the advancement of the Reserve Land Environmental Management Program (RLEMP) with the three First Nations; Support the negotiation and implementation of agreements with government and industry related to development initiatives and the Athabasca Land Use Plan; Maintain effective communications, consultations and planning decision-making with Leadership, community members and decision makers; Develop workplans and budgets to advance projects; Regular travel between Athabasca communities; Regular reporting to the Operations Manager, including presentations to relevant committees; and Engage in other tasks and assignments as directed by the Operations Manager.   Qualifications : A Bachelor’s degree or post-secondary diploma or certificate in environmental science or resource management, or related experience in combination with post-secondary credentials; ‪‪ At least five (5) years’ experience working in similar role; Requires personal vehicle and valid driver’s license; ‪‪ Experience working with First Nations or Indigenous Communities; ‪‪ Ability to establish and maintain relationships with leaders, industry and other stakeholders ; Strong planning and communication background with an interest in working with the Athabasca Basin Communities in their traditional territory to advance and protect their Aboriginal and Treaty Rights; Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills; ‪‪ Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), particularly ArcGIS and data entry; and ‪‪ Excellent project management, problem solving and decision-making skills. ‪‪ Compensation and Benefits: Salary will be commensurate with experience.
